C-operative's Ecofund is 'Yours to Share' to help protect our islands
The Co-operative Environmental Fund is 'Yours to Share'
To mark the Co-operative Fortnight's theme of 'Yours to Share' this year, The Channel Islands Co-operative Society is inviting islanders to benefit from the "Co-operative's Eco Fund", a fund that has been set up to help the environment.
The Environmental Fund is generated by the charge levied on one-trip carrier bags. In the first year alone a reduction in plastic bag usage of 90% exceeded all expectations. The on-going funds raised each year from carrier bag sales goes into the fund and will be shared with islanders who are involved in projects that support environmental causes locally.
Chief Commercial Officer, Jim Plumley said the Channel Islands Co-operative Society has good reason to describe itself as a 'caring and sharing' and, moreover, responsible business: 'It is part of our core ethos that what the Society makes from its business activities is given to our members and the community to share. We are looking for projects and initiatives across the islands that help to protect or regenerate the environment we all live in. As always our overriding aim is to provide meaningful support for as many causes as possible.'
Projects that benefitted in Jersey in the past include:
Applications for Environment Fund donations this year can be submitted during the two weeks of Co-operative Fortnight which is June 25th through to 9th July by writing to Jim Plumley, Chief Commercial Officer, St Peters retail office, Rue de L'eglise, St Peters, Jersey, JE3 7AG or by going to the website www.ci-coop.com/members and downloading an application form under 'Leaflet Downloads'.
Mr Plumley said each application received would be given thorough consideration as the Society takes its responsibility towards the environment very seriously. 'We believe that successful commercial business and strong ethics can co-exist and we put sustainability and the environment at the heart of our business. We will continue to explore ways to lead and support causes and projects that look to make a difference in our islands. This fund is truly yours to share in.'
