Charities and local organisations are being given the opportunity to apply for thousands of pounds as the Co-operative Society launches its 2012 Helping Hands Fund.
The fund, which has benefited thousands of Channel Islanders since it was first launched, is open to charities and organisations and reflects the Society's underlying principles of co-operative trade where profits remain in the Channel Islands to be reinvested and shared with the local community. Applications are being received until the end of January.
"Each year The Channel Islands Co-operative Society gives thousands of pounds to worthy charities and organisations which need a helping hand and our policy has always been to help as many good causes as possible" said Jim Plumley, Chief Commercial Officer of The Channel Islands Co-operative Society.
"As the local retailer, we are proud to support the communities within which we operate and this is just one of many ways that we do that. We want to hear from charities, schools, clubs, welfare groups, trusts and organisations which will really benefit from being a recipient of the Helping Hands programme."
Last year, more than £16,500 was donated to 43 good causes across the Channel Islands. Recipients in Jersey included training mats for the Special Gymnastics Club, tents for St Saviour Scout Group, an upright freezer for the Women's Refuge, a DVD player for Madison de Landes hotel, plasma TV and brackets for St Helier Methodist Church and a music system for Gorey Youth Club.
Mr Plumley continued "Each year we receive more than 100 different applications and it never ceases to amaze us just how many organisations are working so tirelessly to help others. There are some truly remarkable people within the Channel Islands who struggle to raise funds for the work they do. We're delighted that the Helping Hands fund allows us to make donations that will make a real difference."
Letters of interest should be sent to Jim Plumley at The Channel Islands Co-operative Society, 27 Charing Cross, St Helier, Jersey, JE1 1AS by 31st January 2012.
