Channel Islands Co-operative to open new En Route in St Mary’s village

As part of The Channel Islands Co-operative's expansion plans to provide its increasing customer base with more retail outlets, The Society has purchased the petrol garage in St Mary's village. The site has been acquired from Rubis and the plan is to continue to operate the forecourt, shop and car wash in its current form.

Colin Macleod, Chief Executive of The Channel Islands Co-operative said "We said we were actively looking to find new sites in areas where we were not represented in Jersey so we are delighted to be able to provide a Co-operative offer for our members in this part of the island. Obviously we will be branding the site as a Co-operative but other than that it is business as usual." He continued "It is a relatively small site for us, so over a period of time we will look at any development opportunities but we'll talk to our customers first, see what their requirements are and what they would like us to offer."

A date for the hand over to the Co-operative has not been finalised yet but it is expected to be around January 2012 . Given that the retail shop and services will remain the same as before, it is also expected there will be very little disruption to trading from the site.

Mr Macleod concluded "This is an important main route between the east and west in this part of Jersey so passing trade will be brisk but it is also a local community site and as the community based retailer in the islands, we look forward to welcoming the parishioners of St Mary's and those from surrounding areas. Our members will benefit from our same low price policy that we adopt in all our stores."
